well-draining soil. Bred by Antoine A. Jacques, France, 1827. At Old
City Cemetery it can be found in Section EE, the Confederate
Section.

Originally introduced as an ornamental plant, Macartney is
highly adaptable and will grow almost anywhere. The flowers
occur singularly or in small clusters. Its 5-petaled white flowers
bloom from April to July. Its many branches and hooked thorns
make it an excellent living fence, and it is also good for erosion
control. Disease resistant, hardy, will grow in poor soils and
shady areas. The name Macartney rose originates from the mid
18 th century when it was named after George Macartney, the 1 st
Earl Macartney in England. At Old City Cemetery, it can be
found on the west side of The Wall in Section M.

and double, appearing frequently throughout the growing
season but especially in great abundance in the fall. This
slow starting rose bears clusters of 10-30 blooms at once.

wide. Ideal as a free-standing specimen. It is the First
Noisette bred by Philippe Noisette, USA, 1814. At Old City
Cemetery it can be found in Section M.

sturdy, upright canes that form a broad vase shape. Prefers
full sun and loamy, well-draining soil. Discovered by
